you say :" He [senator ted cruz} could follow Cornyn's lead in working with the White House to fill some big holes in the Texas federal judiciary — or not. The choice is his?"

the president nominates federal judges - not ted cruz. while senator cruz should cooperate with the president when ethically possible, the president has the duty to cooperate with senator cruz by nominating individuals who actually believe in the rule of law .president obama's record in the northern district does not build confidence.

for more than two years pres obama delayed the appointment of sara saldana, a democrat and a latina, as united states district attorney for the northern district because she investigated democratic officeholders for corruption. certainly presidents (democrat and republican) base decisions in part on politics; but this action seemed to be a shameful attempt to punish ms. saldana for implementing the Rule of Law..senators cornyn and hutchison successfully fought the president, and he finally nominated her after two years.

there are "rule of law", loyal democratic atorneys qualified for nomination to the federal bench.. let's hope the president does not pull another such stunt so that both senator cruz and senator cornyn are able to cooperate
